Prescription Drug Plans

Medicare Part D

How Do Prescription Drug Plans Work?

  • Work with Medicare by providing a private, Medicare-approved option for prescription coverage, known as Medicare Part D.

  • Premiums — There may be a premium, depending on which drug plan you select.

  • Formulary — Each prescription drug plan separates its medications into tiers. Each tier may have a cost share amount for which you are responsible. Tiers are typically separated by generic drugs, preferred name brands, and more specialized medications. Formularies may change every year.

  • Deductible — Your deductible will depend on which plan you choose. No Medicare drug plan may have a deductible more than $590 in 2025 ($615 in 2026), and some plans have no deductible.
